Empower Job Seekers and Transform Lives!
Maryland New Directions depends on the support of dedicated volunteers to help our job seekers succeed. We welcome professionals who want to give back, whether individually or as part of a group. Individual Volunteer Opportunities
Interviews can be one of the most intimidating steps in the job search journey. Our monthly Mock Interview events—held one Thursday each month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.—give clients the opportunity to practice their self-marketing skills in a supportive environment. We welcome volunteers with professional experience to serve as interviewers and share constructive feedback. Your insight and encouragement make a meaningful difference for clients eager to ace their next interview.
Our computer lab is open on rotating Wednesdays and Thursdays and provides additional support for clients who want to build computer skills, polish their resumes, and search for jobs online. As an open service, attendance can vary each week. Volunteers play a key role by assisting with resumes, navigating job search platforms, and completing applications. We’re looking for volunteers with solid computer skills and strong interpersonal abilities.
Our professional clothing boutique is an essential part of helping clients feel prepared and confident as they pursue employment. Keeping the boutique running smoothly takes time and teamwork, and volunteer support is crucial. Volunteers help sort, tag, and organize clothing, and assist in putting together complete outfits and accessories for clients. Your support helps ensure every client feels empowered walking into an interview or starting a new job.
As part of their training experience, our clients prepare team presentations. We rely on volunteers to sit in on and evaluate these presentations and offer our clients constructive feedback on their work. This exercise is essential in helping our clients build confidence and hone their presentation skills as they search for employment. Presentations are typically conducted from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. several days each month.
Do you have great administrative and office skills? Volunteers play an important role in supporting our front desk operations and serving as welcoming ambassadors for MND. Opportunities may include assisting with outreach, updating or creating materials, and helping prepare training resources. Your organizational skills help keep our programs running smoothly.
Use your creativity and expertise to help Maryland New Directions thrive! The Development Committee supports fundraising initiatives, builds partnerships, and raises awareness of our mission. Committee members help plan events, grow stakeholder relationships, and contribute to the overall success and stability of MND.
Group Volunteer Opportunities
Maryland New Directions welcomes volunteer groups of 5–15 people to support our clients as they prepare to launch their careers. We especially enjoy partnering with businesses and corporate teams that are committed to philanthropy and social responsibility, and that want to make a meaningful impact in their community. Many of our volunteer opportunities can be tailored for groups, and we’re always open to exploring new ways to create a meaningful and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
New groups must attend a 30-minute orientation, which can be held on the same day as their volunteer session. MND provides the necessary supplies and instructions for all volunteer opportunities!
