We Are Seeking Building Trades Experts to Help Shape our Next Training Program
Maryland New Directions is currently working to expand our career training offerings by launching a new program called Building Trades Career Pathways. This program will use a blended curriculum to help clients gain career-focused job-readiness training, and soft skills to prepare them to enter directly into a building trade apprenticeship program or obtain employment in the building trades industry.
As we develop this new program, we are seeking experts from the building trades to volunteer to join our Industry Advisory Committee and help us shape our curriculum.
If you are passionate about contributing to the next generation of professionals in your trade, this is a wonderful opportunity to help prepare a new pipeline of qualified talent. As a member of the Industry Advisory Committee, you will also gain priority access to our pool of thoroughly screened, trained, and prepared candidates to meet your workforce needs.
Who should join?
We are looking for journeyman-level tradespeople with technical expertise in a variety of building trades, including:
- Electrical
- Welding
- Plumbing & Steamfitters
- Ironworks
- Operating Engineering (specific to those operating heavy-duty equipment)
- Construction
- Carpentry
- HVAC
- Maintenance
- Painting & Coating
- Fire Suppression
- Offshore wind
We are especially interested in subject matter experts from organizations who offer apprenticeship programs or specialized training in the building trades, as our goal is to build a curriculum that will best prepare candidates to enter directly into an apprenticeship or a specialized building trades training program.
What is the required commitment?
Members of our Industry Advisory Committee will be asked to attend quarterly meetings, either in person at the MND office or virtually. In these meetings, members will provide their insight on the best ways to develop and design our curriculum and grow our program through strategic partnerships to best meet the workforce needs of their industry.
We hope Industry Advisory Committee members will commit to a two-year term. Members may also be asked to serve on subcommittees based on their areas of interest and expertise. We also hope Industry Advisory Committee members will be open to engaging with our clients directly and continuing to support MND by becoming a hiring partner and/or volunteering for other opportunities within the organization.
Why should I join?
At MND, our clients are motivated to change their lives through employment, and we work tirelessly to help them prepare for and find meaningful and fulfilling career opportunities. As a member of our Industry Advisory Committee, you will have the opportunity to have a direct and profound impact on these individuals’ lives, your industry, and our community at large. You will network and collaborate with other like-minded trade professionals who care about the future of your trade and nurturing the next generation of skilled talent. And your company will benefit from access to a new pipeline of thoroughly screened, trained, and qualified candidates for your existing apprenticeship programs.
